KNX VFD Text-Display

The VFD Text-Display use the existing KNX Infrastructure to transmit the alphanumerical information, which appears in crisp, clear and bright characters on the screen.

The device is configured with ETS. For writing to the device it is necessary to connect a PC either via RS232 to the KNX, or using KNX/IP gateways such as the ComBridge NCI, WCI, MCG or other KNXnet/IP Router. The text for the device can entered into an text entry software for Windows, into the Webbrowser with ComBridge Studio or come from larger systems such as room, security and facility management software.

The KNX standard transmits information based on communication objects. The maximum length of the data contained in each object is 14 byte. Since the total display contains up to 4 x 40 (160) characters, it is necessary to split them across several telegrams. This is achieved with a special handshake designed for this application.

A total of 18 telegrams is necessary for the transmission of the 160 characters. This should be considered as one of the design aspects of the installation, and the displays should not be used for continuously changing information. Good design practice shows that depending on the frequency of text messages, no more than 20 displays should be connected onto a single busline.

The front of the display panel features a design frame in aluminium, which is available in many colour finishes, just like all IPAS user panels. The standard colour is Aluminium-Silver.
